declutter your bathroom

Got your boxes ready? Awesome.

   all bathrooms at once

Some experts recommend decluttering multiple bathrooms at once in order to gain a better idea as to how much stuff you actually have. If this method isn't for you - don't worry, once you have completed decluttering one bathroom make a quick list of all of the items that you kept. This way when you move to the next bathroom you know what you already have and what you need to keep.

   Break it down

Start with the sink area, move to nearby cabinets and drawers, and then finish with the shower area. Remember to wipe the cabinets out before you put the items you are keeping back in.

  • Old Towels (these can be donated)
  • Old or Sample-Sized Toiletries
  • Old Makeup
  • Dried-up Nail Polish
  • Worn-Out Bathmats
  • Old Toothbrushes
  • Old Air Fresheners
  • Bags Left Behind From the Toilet Paper
  • Empty Shampoo Containers (these can be recycled once rinsed)
  • The One Lonely Earring That Lost It's Partner

  • Broken or Rusty Jewellery

   remove and sort

Be sure to remove everything from the cupboard or drawer that you are currently tackling. Creating piles of like items will help you to efficiently organize your bathroom when you are done. Consider making piles for makeup, cleaning supplies, towels, etc... so you can see exactly what you have and what you can get rid of.

Moving is not only an excellent time to declutter your home, but also an excellent opportunity to organize it. After you have decluttered each area consider using dividers, small baskets, shower caddies, hooks and other storage ideas to help organize your stuff and maximize the storage potential.

Items like cosmetics, hair brushes and toothbrushes should not be shared. However other items, such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and lotion can all be shared by the family. Does every member need their own? Probably not. Keep this in mind as you declutter.

Short on storage? Over-the-door shoe organizers are a great way to store - well, pretty much anything including face cloths, medicines, cleaning supplies and more! Shoe organizers are a very inexpensive and can be found pretty much anywhere.
