declutter the Garage

   aim for a nice day

When decluttering such a large variety of items  it is important to ensure that you have space to spread out and sort. If you have a large empty space in the garage - awesome. If not, try and aim for a nice day (or atleast a dry one) and use your driveway to spread out.

3 THINGS TO THROW OUT RIGHT NOW

  • Broken Tools
  • Empty Bottles & Cans
  • Expired / Old Motor Oils, aints, etc.

   where to start

When tackling a large job such as the garage, the question one always asks is "Where do I start?". The answer is simple - anywhere you want. Just choose a section and get at it. The journey of a thousand miles started with a single step remember?

   Don't Skip Anything

Once you have decided on a section to start decluttering it is important that you work sytematically within that area. Either left to right or top to bottom, but be sure to not to skip over anything.

   avoid a "deffered decision" pile

Be ruthless - if you don't know what you should be doing with an item right now, chances are you won't know later either. If it's been hanging around in limbo in your garage for years, you probably don't need it.

   invest in totes

Once you have decided what you are keeping, store related items in totes. Not only are they easy to move, but now all you need to do at your new house is build some shelves. By labelling and storing these totes in an organized fashion, you can ensure easy access to your belongings and a decluttered garage. Talk about starting off on the right foot!
